I hope you haven't packed up your ski and snowboard gear just yet because as I write this it is dumping here in Mammoth Lakes. As of this writing we have 2-3" of new snow in town and there are forecasts for up to a foot on the sierra crest.
The last few weeks have been sunny and warm. Snow coverage is still pretty good on the upper mountain and over towards Main Lodge. The snow is pretty hard early in the day, but it softens quickly, turning to slush by mid-day. All in all, it is still pretty fun if you ask me because there are some great groomers and the parks are still in mid season shape. It has been looking pretty thin over by Canyon Lodge, Chair 9, and Eagle; so if you head over there make sure you use your rock board (or rock skis). Canyon lodge closes this weekend and they will be holding their annual pond skim this Sunday, April 17.
We are starting to see some of the fun end of season banked slalom runs that pop up here and there at Mammoth Mountain. However, the perfect sunny weather that has made the last few weeks so much fun is now gone. Winter has returned and we are hoping for a pow day this week, maybe even two with another potential storm heading this way mid week. With this new snow it should set us up for a great Spring Ski & Snowboard Season this year.
The parks are still looking pretty good with a ton of fun features. There are plenty of rails and jibs that feature the creativity of the Mammoth Mountain park crew along with 6-8 jumps that are still in solid shape. With the huge jumps at Main park and the medium & small jumps in Forest Trail & South Park you are bound to find something your speed.
