This is our first Mammoth Mountain snow report of the season and we are off to a great start. With over 100" of snow Mammoth has the most snow of any ski resort in the country. Thus far, it has been pow day after pow day and the trend continues this weekend with multiple feet in forecast. The current on snow conditions are mostly packed powder with a few pow stashes here and there. Tree runs and ungroomed areas of the mountain are tracked out, but still soft. The groomers are super fun and the unbound terrain parks should see a lot more features soon.
The mountain has looked like the above picture for the last week or so with a few breaks in the storm systems. Epic pow days have already been had by many and we have the biggest pow day of the season on deck. A storm is due to hit on Saturday (12/10/22) and it is looking like several feet of new snow will be on the ground by Monday (12/12/22). Expect weather holds and avalanche closures this weekend with a major pow day sometime early next week. If this trend continues we could be in for a record December, even bigger than last year when we had 161" of snow in Dec.
The unbound terrain parks are starting to get built. Currently, main park has a number of challenging rails and a mid-sized jump while Forest Trail park is in mid season condition with a series of jibs, 2 small/mid sized jumps, and 15-20 foot half pipe at the end of the run. There are also a few rails, boxes, a good sized jump, and other features at the Chair 4 park. I expect the Unbound terrain park crew to be very busy the next few weeks and we should have 3 or 4 extensive park lines ready to rip before the holidays. Check back for more pictures and details about the Mammoth Mountain terrain park and when to expect more powder.
