Thanks for checking out our Mammoth Mountain Snow report for the last week of December. The conditions are great right now with packed powder across the mountain. You can also find some great wind buff in pockets if you know where to look (Dave's Run, Under Chair 23, the Hemlocks). The crowds are starting to show up, so expect longer lift lines through early January. If you get on the hill early or later in the afternoon the lift lines tend to be better (also right around lunch time you can score shorter wait times).
Check out our instagram post for the latest photos of the mountain, including a few shots of the features in the terrain park. The parks are looking really good right now with tons of boxes, rails, and jibs in Main Park, Forest Trail, and Chair 4. The Mammoth Mountain website claims there are 7 parks, but there really are just the 3 mentioned above. Main park is filled with super challenging rails, wall rides, and they are currently rebuilding the ridiculously huge jump line (should be available by the weekend). Forest trail is super fun with some mellower jibs and boxes and a couple of mid-sized jumps. The Chair 4 terrain park also has a ton of features, most of them designed for advanced to expert riders with a few features that your average park rider can hit. They have also added a hike park near the entrance to Main lodge, but I found it very hard to get enough speed to hit most of the features.
As for the powder forecast, things are looking pretty good depending on who you ask. It looks like there is a series of storms stacking up starting a couple days after Christmas. The forecast temps are right around 32, so we are all praying for snow (not rain). With a 60% chance of snow for Dec 27 through the entire first week of January, we could get an absolute ton of snow if things work out well. Looks like we could be storm riding for a while and when the storm eventually clears (maybe Jan 9 or 10) we should be in for a great mid January.
