The Local Snow Report - Christmas Week

Posted by Jason Blakey on

If you haven't heard that Mammoth is about to get a ton of snow, then you must be living under a rock. Depending on who you listen to, Mammoth Mountain will get between 3 and 300 feet of snow. In all seriousness, we will probably get 5 to 8 feet (maybe more) of snow from now until the new year.

Mammoth Lakes Snow Report

Snow Conditions: As of right now, Wed. 12/22/21, the snow is pretty dang good. Groomers in the morning are really nice and there are some spots with powdery wind buff if you know where to look for them. Watch out for bumpy/mogul-like sections on ungroomed runs and in high traffic areas later in the day. With so much snow in the forecast, the conditions will change to powder across the whole mountain by Thursday morning. Expect fresh lines through the New Year...thanks for doing your snow dances.

Weather: Snow, snow, and more snow. The forecast is calling for several large storms with little to no breaks between the storms. Driving up to mammoth starting on Thursday will be difficult, make sure you bring water, food, and a shovel in case you get stuck on the road for an extended period. We hope to get 8 feet of snow or more over the next 10 days.

Mammoth Snow Report December 2021

Weekend Outlook: Expect large crowds and long lift lines on some lifts, this is the busiest time of the year at Mammoth Mountain. The biggest bottle neck on the mountain is at The Mill where you can catch chair 2 and 10. Avoid this area if possible as it wouldn't be a surprise to see hour long lines. We are also anticipating lift closures due to weather and avalanche control. Earlier this year they closed the entire mountain for a day due to excessive snow. On a positive note, the lifts they are able to get open will have absolutely awesome conditions. Expect a lot of powder, fresh lines, and face shots pretty much everyday through the New Year. Make sure you bundle up, put your low light lenses in your googles, and be ready for some serious fun as they safely open lifts.

Park Report: As of Wed (12/22/21) there is no park. They are currently working on re-building main park and they are starting work on the Chair 4 park. With all the snow in the forecast it is unlikely we will see any park features for at least a week, if not longer. Put your park board back in the garage, grab you pow board, and look for natural side hits and cliff drops if you want to catch some air.
