We finally got some snow on Mammoth Mountain after an extended dry spell. Unfortunately, it was only 2" and it didn't do much to change the current conditions. The good news is that the current conditions are still pretty solid.
Expect more warm weather and plenty of sun during the day with bone chilling temps at night over the next week. President's weekend in Mammoth Lakes is going to be absolutely beautiful with temps in the mid 40's and little to no wind or clouds. Next week we are looking at single digit temps at night with a chance at some more snow Tuesday into Wed. We won't get a ton of snow out of this next storm, but it is nice to see the weather pattern changing back to wintery weather.
Coverage is still great with soft snow on the lower lifts and harder, faster snow on the upper lifts. Most days it softens up enough to do some off trail skiing/riding, but I don't recommend it. Stay on the groomed trails for the best snow. Watch out for nasty bumpy snow later in the day on the most popular runs over the busy weekend. Goldhill near Chair 9, Solitude from Chair 5 or 10, and Saddle Bowl on the backside of Chair 3 get a ton of traffic and they often turn into mogul runs late in the day.
The parks are in great condition with tons of features for every level of rider. There are a couple small features for beginners off Eagle Express and Chair 7. There is a lot of fun to be had on Jibs Galore and Forest Trail parks with large features in South Park and Main park. The Volcano section, pictured above, is new and unique. If you are a park rider; this has been an awesome season with plenty of snow for features and plenty of sunny days with very little wind. Get after it!
