This photo was taken on 10/11/21 at 3 pm at Canyon Lodge on Mammoth Mountain. You can still see some long grass on the slopes, but it is looking more and more like Mammoth Mountain could, if they wanted to, open early. This is the 3rd measurable snowfall already this season (well, the first one was just a dusting, but I'm counting it) and I am sure everyone is thinking the same thing I am. Will Mammoth open early for the 21/22 ski season?
Snow started in town today around 8:30am and the white stuff is still coming down as of this post. It is looking like 2"-4" in town and I wouldn't be surprised if they get a foot on top. Additionally, Mammoth Mountain posted a photo on social media showing their snow making operation already blowing snow. This really has my thinking they will open sometime in Oct. That would not be unprecedented, I have been snowboarding at Mammoth before Halloween.
The ski resort has not announced anything about an early opening yet. It really just depends on what happens with the weather the next week or so and if the ski resort has enough employees. I bet that if it stays cold enough and they can find some employees then we will be shredding by the end of the month.
