It's Official - Mammoth Mountain is opening early!

After weeks of speculation that that Mammoth may move up their opening date due to extensive early snowfall; Mammoth Mountain has officially announced an opening date of Oct 29, 2021. This two weeks earlier than their scheduled opening of November 13. It should turn out to be a pretty rad opening day with plenty of powder too. Local weather buff, Howard Sheckter, is calling for at least a few more feet in the atmospheric river that is headed our way Sunday into Monday. Scrap those Halloween plans because it's time to hit the slopes.

The Real Snow Report - Will Mammoth Mountain Open Early?

This photo was taken on 10/11/21 at 3 pm at Canyon Lodge on Mammoth Mountain. You can still see some long grass on the slopes, but it is looking more and more like Mammoth Mountain could, if they wanted to, open early. This is the 3rd measurable snowfall already this season (well, the first one was just a dusting, but I'm counting it) and I am sure everyone is thinking the same thing I am. The Real Snow Report - Mammoth Mountain Snow on Oct 8

It was rainy all night in Mammoth Lakes and around 8am this morning it switched to snow. At one point it appeared to be mid-winter with big fat flakes of snow coming down, see photo above. At the time of this post the snow was still coming down in Mammoth Lakes, although it is starting to switch to more of a wintery mix. In town we are looking at about 1-2 inches of snow. Getting to Mammoth Mountain has never been easier. Book flights directly to Mammoth Lakes and Bishop for the 2020/21 ski season. Skip the 5 hour drive and take a 45 minute flight. United Airlines will be flying into Bishop from LA, San Francisco, and Denver. If you elect to fly to Bishop then you will have a 45 minute shuttle ride to Mammoth Lakes upon arrival. You can also take a public charter flight service called Advanced Airlines that allows you to skip TSA. Truth be told, all hikes in and around Mammoth Lakes are awesome in the Fall.
